American Math Challenge

October 16-17 is the American Math Challenge. This competition is sponsored by Mathletics. All points earned go toward your monthly total, but these points will also go toward prizes. On these two days, the features of the program will be as follows:

Tuesday, October 16: CHALLENGE DAY 1
•300 points available for each activity, 15,000 points maximum per student


Wednesday, October 17: CHALLENGE DAY 2
•Speed and accuracy in mental arithmetic
•The final score from the first 10 games per level counts toward total points

Prizes!!!
1st place:  Pizza party for advisory
2nd through 5th place:  Gift cards

The students listed will meet on Tuesdays during study hall in order to prepare for the MathCounts competition in late January.  These 20 students are competing to represent Calvert School at the regional competition.  Only 10 students will compete officially.  I wish everyone good luck and see you on Tuesdays!

More Mathletics

Prizes were awarded to the students with over 10,000 points from their summer math.  These students received coupons for free Chik-Fil-A sandwiches.  In addition, the top students in 6th, 7th and 8th grades were awarded "Back to School Kits" containing a pencil case, mechanical pencil and gel pen, a ruler, a protractor and a scientific calculator.  These students also received Chik-Fil-A gift cards.

I can't wait to see how many points are earned for the first quarter.  Fifth graders will receive their usernames and passwords on Monday.  Good luck everyone!

Summer Math and Mathletics

Welcome back to school!  I know that almost all of the students spend a lot of time completing problems on mathletics.com.  I am proud of the progress that was made.  Some of the concepts were new, but many students tried successfully to learn them.

Mathletics will be available throughout the school year.  Students will be required to earn at least 1000 points every month.  In addition, there will be rewards for earning over 10,000 points each quarter, and there will be prizes for the student in each grade that earns the most points for each quarter.

Because there are 226 students in the middle school, I appreciate all of the students (and parents) being responsible with the username and passwords.  Can you imagine all of the emails that I have received from over 150 students and parents already?  If you lose it, either contact me or your math teacher and we will email it to you.
